Altec 1224A "thump"

I have a pair of Altec 1224A's that have an annoying and very audible thump when turned on. Is this normal for these, or is there some kind of speaker relay that may be gone in these. Thanks!!!!

I don't have an answer specific to the 1224 but I have found that my preamp and especially my active crossover have to be powered up a couple seconds before the power amps are turned on or they thump. Both my preamp and active crossover have op amps which tend to cause thumps on power up. If you have a separate preamp, try turning it on first.

Thanks for the possible solution. It won't work in this case however, as the 1224A is a bi-amplified electronic crossover, and is all in one unit for mounting in A7's etc. and not separatable. Your solution did however help a friend of mine who was having a similar problem. Thanks!!!!
